GET YOUR SLEEP!
Sleep debts accrue when nightly sleep totals six hours or less. A study finds people respond poorly while feeling only slightly tired. This study was conducted by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. People who believe they can function well on six or fewer hours of sleep every night may be accumulating a "sleep debt". Routinely sleeping for fewer than six hours results in cognitive performance deficits and seriously impairs the person's functions. This in turn affects the person's ability to react and places the person at risk for driving, flying an airplane or operating equipment even if the person's feels that they have adapted to it. Your best bet is to get at least 7 or 8 hours of good, restful sleep a night to prevent this sleep debt problem.

My name is Kim McKeon and I am a 32 year old mom of 2, ages 5 and 7. I am currently in a very successful direct sales business, although it was not always that way. So let's start at the beginning. We all hear the stories of those people like Mary Kay, Mrs Fields, Dr.Phil, Doris Christopher ( founder of Pampered Chef), and Ray Crock, founder of McDonalds.
Certainly those are great stories, but let's face it those are one in a million, and as my grandfather used to say, "you aint it, kid". He meant this in the most wonderful way, as he was one of the most influential men in my life. Anyways, I am no one famous, not a star, was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, and had no prior sales experience. I went to college and have a degree in PSY and worked in a juvenille jail until 2 days before my son was born, and knew right away I wanted be home raising him. But what on earth was I going to do? I decided when he was 18 months old that I was going to open a home daycare and allow my kids the socialization I wanted for them in my home with other childern around in my house with my rules. So, 5 months pregnant with my 2nd child I opened a home daycare and ran it full time for the next 5 1/2 years and loved it. With my son starting school full time I decided I was not going to want kids here when he came home from school as I was selfish and did not want him to share my time, so I was going to give up the daycare so we could be together one on one. Well almost one on one as my daughter was 4 years old and in nursery school. Ok, so here I was thrilled to be with just my children, but also still really needing some additional income for the family budget. Those of you who pay daycare, know how profitable a business it can be!! I also knew that direct sales could be a great thing given the right company. Let me back up again for a second here. I like many of you, have tried many different ways to make $$ and never succeeded. I have been in a few different DS companies, have dabbled a bit in network marketing, and yes, have even succomb to some of those money sucking get rich quick schemes. Come on let's be realistic, if you have never tried the stuffing envelope thing you have at least thought about it right? Well, before you think about it again, let me tell you DON"T DO IT!!!!!!
Before I gave up daycare, I was in a DS company that I thought was going to be "the one" for me. Well, after not getting very far in it I decided to look in to why it was not going anywhere. Was it me, was it the company, or was it just that DS was not the place to be? I was determined to find out as I truly believed DS could possibly be the ultimate career choice. This is what I came up with, and this is what I think is important for you to consider when looking to a career in Direct Sales. It has worked for me and I think after reading you will find that it makes sence to you as well. When looking to make $$ in a DS company you need to look at 3 main components. What do I as the company represantative get, what does the customer get, and finally what does the hostess get. After all, the lifeline of our business is booking, selling and recruiting. Without all 3 being equally effective, the lesser chance there is of success. Let's take the company I represent for example, Northern Lights at Home, and go through it from each aspect:

Some other things to consider when looking at different companies:-
Is the market saturated with consultants?
-
Can you buy the products on line and if so is that really direct sales and will that take away from the home party and what direct sales is really all about?

What is the target market of the companies product,i.e., men, women, children, everyone?

Is it a consumable product?
- Once they have it all will they need more or have room for it?
-
What is the advancement and what is the realistic potential and get examples of people who have done it.

Most important, do I like the product? You have to really believe in what you sell or no matter how good it is, it is not going to work for you. Enthusiasm is contagious, and if you have passion for what you do, others will see it and want to share it with you.
I would call myself someone just like you who was looking to find a profitable way to make money by working from home and was frustrated many times and wanted to give up. I knew there was something out there and I was going to find it and I did. If 10 months ago someone would have told me I would be having financial success selling wax and brass, I would have laughed them off the planet, and I have never taken a sales or management course in my life!!!
I joined Northern Lights at Home in September of 2003, and I was the 414th person to join the company. I started with my first presentation on October, went in to a qualification period for manager in November, and on December 1st became the 6th manager in the company. ~~5 Spice Tamales~~
Makes: 18 Servings
Ingredients:
1 lb Tofu, crumbled
2 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper
2 tbsp Onion, dried
1/4 cup Bell Pepper, chopped
4 tsp Mustard, prepared
1 tbsp Soy sauce
Preparation:
Combine filling ingredients in a mixing bowl Fill and cook tamales
according to "Tamales: Basic Procedure" *** Vegetarian Gormet - Summer

****Hint Make your own Chinese 5 spice blend by mixing equal anounts
of Star anise, Szechuan pepper, cloves, cinnamon, and fennel seed.
Grind spices into a powder with amortar and pestle or a coffee
grinder.
